Housing Accommodation

Appalachian State University makes reasonable housing accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. University Housing strives to provide equal access to housing for all residents in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADA), the Fair Housing Act, and other applicable federal and state regulations that prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability.

Requests are determined on a case-by-case basis with respect to sufficient documentation meeting university guidelines and addressing the impact of the disability supporting the need for housing accommodations. Neither the presence of a disability or approval for a housing accommodation guarantee on-campus housing or a specific roommate.

Both on-campus housing through University Housing and housing accommodations through ODR must be applied for on an annual basis.

Procedure

Students requesting a Service Animal  or Emotional Support Animal within University Housing must also follow the procedure for Service Animals & Emotional Support Animals within University Housing, in  addition to the following steps.

All students are encouraged to simultaneously make any requests for accommodations within University Housing when applying for on-campus housing and  prior to housing assignments being made to ensure availability and options. Once housing assignments are made, requests may be subject to availability.

Incoming Students

Students who are requesting housing accommodations as an incoming student must complete both the:

  1. housing application through University Housing,
  2. the ODR Student Procedure for requesting accommodation.

Continuing Students With No Approved Accommodations Through ODR

Current on-campus students who are requesting housing accommodations for the first time must complete both the:

  1. annual housing re-application process through University Housing;
  2. the ODR Student Procedure for requesting accommodation; and
  3. ODR Housing Accommodation request form.

Upon completion of the reapplication period, on-campus invitations are sent via email through random selection. Not all students who reapply will receive an invitation for on-campus housing, and support of an accommodation does not guarantee on-campus housing.

The location, access points, bed options (bunk bed/lofts) and room style vary greatly between each residence hall. Investigate what housing options work best for you before completing your housing application.
