Appalachian State University makes reasonable housing accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. University Housing strives to provide equal access to housing for all residents in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADA), the Fair Housing Act, and other applicable federal and state regulations that prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability.
Requests are determined on a case-by-case basis with respect to sufficient documentation meeting university guidelines and addressing the impact of the disability supporting the need for housing accommodations. Neither the presence of a disability or a request for a housing accommodation guarantees on-campus housing or a specific roommate.
Both on-campus housing through University Housing and housing accommodations through ODR must be applied for on an annual basis.
Procedure
Individuals requesting an Assistance Animal (Service or Emotional Support Animal within University Housing must also follow the procedure for Assistance Animals within University Housing, in addition to the following steps.

the ODR Student Procedure for requesting accommodation
Students are encouraged to make requests for housing accommodations prior to housing assignments being made to ensure availability and options. Once housing assignments are made, requests may be subject to availability.
The location, access points, bed (bunk bed/lofts), room style and bathroom type vary greatly between each residence hall. Students are encouraged to research which housing options will work best prior to completing the housing application.
Housing Reapplication
Upon completion of the annual reapplication period for continuing students, on-campus invitations are sent via email through random selection. Not all students who complete the reapplication process will receive an invitation for on-campus housing, and support of an accommodation through ODR does not guarantee on-campus housing.
