The Equal Opportunity (EO) unit of Access & Equity strives to make Appalachian State University a discrimination-free, harassment-free environment for faculty, students, and staff to work, live, and learn. Appalcart Transportation
Appalachian State University does not provide transportation services. AppalCart is the transportation authority serving Watauga County.

Career Development Center
The Career Development Center assists current students, graduating seniors and alumni in job and internship search skills. Career Fairs provide networking opportunities for students to meet with potential employers recruiting Appalachian students. Online Services such as Career Gear and Perfect Interview can help with your job search anytime anywhere.
Computer Labs
There are now close to 2,500 public workstations across campus. The largest student computing facility is in Belk Library, which now has over 300 public workstations. Almost every academic department has computing facilities available.
Counseling & Psychological Services
Offers a full range of counseling services to all currently-enrolled students at no charge. These services include individual counseling, group therapy, couples and family counseling and the opportunity for outreach and consultation.

The Office of Environmental Health, Safety and Emergency Management provides guidelines regarding emergency preparedness, guidelines, etc.
Health Service (Mary S. Shook)
The Mary S. Shook Student Health Services exists to meet the health needs of the students of Appalachian State University. All registered full-time students who are currently attending class are eligible to receive care at the Health Service. Students taking less than nine hours are eligible after paying the Student Health fee. A valid student identification card is required for any service.
Student Learning Center
Assisting students in achieving success academically and reaching their educational goals is our purpose and priority. Our various programs provide services to students which include tutoring in introductory level courses, Supplemental Instruction in partnership with certain sections of Biology and Chemistry, and learning skills courses and consultations. Special populations of students are provided a comprehensive system of support which may include academic advising, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, orientation, instruction, study skills and academic study halls to enable them to be successful in their academic work.
- Academic Strategy Instruction includes a number of resources to help students at Appalachian succeed. One-on-one appointments on study skills topics are free to all Appalachian students. Students who would benefit from weekly support may consider signing up for general tutoring or ask about a referral to the academic coach. Elective one hour classes in study skills, time management and reading are offered during the fall and spring semesters. Taking a class is a great way to identify, practice and reflect on skills for academic achievement.
- As-U-R is an intensive student support program focused on supporting students with executive function challenges (EFCs).
- Tutoring Servicies Tutoring is free for all Appalachian students and offers weekly small group sessions.
- Lead Tutoring Gain a better understanding of the course content, improve your study skills, and earn a better grade. Attend SI to get together with your classmates and compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying the subject, and test yourself before the professor does.
- Learning Labs Appalachian offers a number of Drop-in Help Labs where students receive free tutorial assistance without an appointment. Labs are staffed by qualified tutors and faculty members are often present in the lab to assist students.

Ombuds Office
The University Ombuds Office offers a confidential neutral environment and can help acquire perspective to think about and access a range of alternatives to various university concerns.
Career Exploration Office
Where students help students discover and explore majors and careers. A free service which provides paraprofessional career counseling, career and educational information, and computerized career development to App State students. You may drop in or schedule an appointment.
Parking
The University Parking and Traffic Department is responsible for providing parking services and traffic control for all faculty, staff, students and visitors to the campus.
The App State Psychology Clinic is a training and research facility that offers a full range of evidence-based assessment and treatment services. We serve children, adolescents, and adults with concerns about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning difficulties, stress, and anxiety disorders.
Research Advisory Program
The Research Advisory Program (RAP) s a service offered by librarians in Belk Library to provide one-on-one, in-depth research assistance. RAP sessions are conducted in person, by phone, or online via web conferencing or AETZone. Sessions generally last from 15 minutes to an hour.

University Writing Center (UWC)
The University Writing Center (UWC) offers free services to students, faculty, and staff of Appalachian State University. Anyone who would like to discuss a piece of writing with an informed, sensitive reader is welcome. We are here to work with writers on a wide variety of projects: papers for academic courses; masters and senior thesis chapters; personal essays for job, graduate school, and law school applications; creative writing projects; grant or project proposals; and course syllabi. We work with writers at any stage of the writing process, from inventing topics to editing at the sentence level.
